I'm not sure what the rave reviews are about. I found the pictures grainy and lacking in clarity and the book very frenetic; there would be an intro page about a neighborhood and then only 3 or 4 pages of pictures. I didn't feel like I got a sense of the neighborhood or city before being forced onto the next section. It wasn't a slow perusing coffee table book like I expected. Instead, it just came off as someone who but together an Artifact Uprising photo book from their Instagram stream. I was pulled in by the cover, but the body just didn't deliver. Will be returning.

This is a book of instagram photos, tiny snapshots of prettily colored buildings and signs, but with no sense of the place or the people, and no captions or commentary to elaborate. The color palette is lovely, yes, but this isn't really "seeing" San Fransisco. After looking through this book, I now know exactly as much about this fabled city as I knew before. Glad I bought it second hand!

i bought this, it got lost and then amazon sent me a replacement right away. so that was extremely great.but the book itself, i wasnt too crazy about it.the pictures are nice but it wasnt what i thought it would be and overall i would have been okay getting a refund.

Well it a good book! Good variety of recipes. The only complaint I have is how they make it seem that the cooking is faster than what it is (like all instant pot recipes). While yes, you can set the timer for a 10 minute cook and quick release...it will take the pot 5-10 minutes to warm up and 2-5 minutes for quick release. I have made 3 of the recipes and they were easy to follow and turned out well. it's a great, detailed manual that walks a novice through every function of an Instant. I am looking forward to making more also. Lovely ! Great for me! Amazing

About the Author

Jeffrey Bennett holds a B.A. (1981) in biophysics from the University of California, San Diego, and an M.S. and Ph.D. (1987) in astrophysics from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has taught at every level from preschool through graduate school, including more than 50 college classes in astronomy, physics, mathematics, and education. He served 2 years as a visiting senior scientist at NASA headquarters, where he created NASA's "IDEAS" program, started a program to fly teachers aboard NASA's airborne observatories (including the recently launched SOFIA observatory), and worked on numerous educational programs for the Hubble Space Telescope and other space science missions. He also proposed the idea for and helped develop both the Colorado Scale Model Solar System on the CU-Boulder campus and the Voyage Scale Model Solar System on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. (He is pictured here with the model Sun.) In addition to this astronomy textbook, he has written college-level textbooks in astrobiology, mathematics, and statistics; two books for the general public, On the Cosmic Horizon (Pearson Addison-Wesley, 2001) and Beyond UFOs (Princeton University Press, 2008); and an award-winning series of children's books that includes Max Goes to the Moon, Max Goes to Mars, Max Goes to Jupiter,and Max's Ice Age Adventure. Megan is married to Mark Voit, and they collaborate on many projects, including this textbook and the raising of their children, Michaela, Sebastian, and Angela. Between the births of Sebastian and Angela, Megan qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon. These days, Megan runs, orienteers, and plays piano and bass guitar whenever her children allow it.   Nicholas Schneider is an associate professor in the Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences at the University of Colorado and a researcher in the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics. He received his B.A. in physics and astronomy from Dartmouth College in 1979 and his Ph.D. in planetary science from the University of Arizona in 1988. In 1991, he received the National Science Foundation's Presidential Young Investigator Award. He earned his B.A. in astrophysical sciences at Princeton University and his Ph.D. in astrophysics at the University of Colorado in 1990. The Insanity of Obedience is companion piece to Ripken's previous work, The Insanity of God. Although the two works cover some of the same ground, each book deserves a reading. The Ripken's felt called by God to go overseas as missionaries. When they responded to that call, they had no idea that they would eventually end up working in Somalia. In that lawless land, their faith took a major nose dive. Their losses were huge. Eventually they came home wounded emotionally and spiritually with a huge question mark hanging over their heads: can faith survive under intense persecution? They set out on a quest to find the answer to that question, eventually interviewing 600 Christians who had endured under some form of persecution. That is the subject of Ripken's first book. His second one, The Insanity of Obedience examines what it looks like to go out as sheep among wolves and gives story after story on how to carry out the Great Commission - even when obedience looks crazy from a human perspective.

Love the perspective of this book compared to The Insanity of God. Rather than tell Nik's story, this book puts us in his mind as he grapples with the meaning of the Great Commission. No, it is not a re-hashing of the same material. This book has a different, more practical perspective.

Disciple making is now in sharper focus due to this study. Realizing how people groups come to that life changing decision through a process of experiential discipleship directed by the Holy Spirit using access to the Word and near cultural believers puts missions work in a new light. Working to undergird the local body is critical, equipping them for greater service impacts that culture more effectively than cross cultural evangelizing. Also, due to this revelation, local disciple making is now understood in the light of greater individual impact.This book required deep reflection and challenged me in traditional ideas. As I read each chapter I would reflect on past experiences with clearer understand, helping hone my future work. I have a handful of books that I consider my missional directors, this is one which I look forward to reading again, and even studying with a group. Impactful.

this is a terrific book for those who are commited to walking as Jesus walked through this life with many challenges. It is the second book I have read from this most dedicated traveler and seeker of truth. The first book, The Insanity of God, should be on every Christian bookshelf, better yet, right by your reading place, well read and prayed over. Life is not easy and they have sought to bring the reading to the very heart of God.

Having read Nik Ripkens' other book, The insanity of God, and now this one I could not give it a higher recommendation. I am an avid reader but also a finicky reader. I hope that this book will both challenge and enlighten the next reader as it has done to me. It is by no means an easy read in regards to the way Nik enlightens the church on the concept and reality of those who are being persecuted and those who are put to death for the Lord. I do hope this book will be placed in all the libraries of all the churches worldwide as well as in every seminary. The church in the west needs to hear how other parts of the body of Christ are handling the choice they make, when they choose to follow The Lord Jesus Christ. You will be shocked how American Christianity is woefully lacking with practical survival skills in evangelism, faithfulness and spirituality. I found I am so far behind the brothers and sisters living in persecution, that I am horrified. I am even more horrified to see that our institionalized Christian ways are not good arenas for nurturing the growth of any of the above three areas. I don't know if the American church could survive vicious, unrelenting and continual persecution. We have much, much to learn from our persecuted brothers and sisters in Iran, Iraq, China, Russia, Somalia and other places. If you want to learn how to truly walk in the Spirit, read this book then fall on your knees to beg God to teach you how to follow Him.

I found this book better than the Insanity of God. They were both powerful and well written but this book came as far more accessible and challenging for my sheltered American life. God calls all of us to go make disciples, not only some of us. So... what are we waiting for? Nik leaves us with little excuse and empowers you with true stories of the Holy Spirit, in modern times, moving to work all things together for good.

Wonderful book. Insightful and revealing of the western church. Not a "how-to" book! Reaching those around us with the truth of grace by trust in Christ Jesus is a worthwhile work. God is doing unexpected things in our world today. Recommend readers read the first book, Insanity of God, before this one. Insanity of Obedience builds and applies the first book to our lives.

Great book by, Ellie Kemper. My favorite chapter was "Warriors" and I laughed out loud several times reading that chapter regarding the names she made up for her future grandchildren. A quick read and entertaining and gives some backstory regarding the movie Bridesmaids, The Office, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

A FUNNY well-written book of funny and charming essays written by a funny and charming woman who knows how to write. It's not Erin or Kimmy, it's ELLIE--and this isn't just celebrity "dish." She serves up a tasty smorgasbord of delicious anecdotes and observations, garnished with wit and spice, and a large scoop of Ben and Jerry's. A delight!

Not the fault of Amazon. This is just an awful book. Really disjointed writing style.

No big surprises here. The Princeton-educated Kemper writes well and has some fun thoughts and stories and deploys some humorous turns of phrases. Brisk and involves little heavy mental lifting.

I feel disappointed. I'm a fan of Ellie's work, but this didn't have enough stories to hold my interest. The layout feels off; no one was asked to write a forward? Tina Fey , Mindy Kaling or even Ed Helm's would have done something comical and sell some books.The Saturday Night Live story was great, so was getting Kimmy Schmidt. But that wasn't enough. It felt like it was too soon for a book deal. Having read both Tina's and Mindy's book, there is none of that same laugh out loud humor. This is good for a quick read, but I'm glad it was only $5.

I love Ellie Kemper. I think she is a very funny actor. I'm not sure why she wrote this book. I think the book was ok but not great. I only giggled a few times vs Tina Fey's "bossypants" had me belly laughing.
