I hate to be negative, but I bought this to use as a nightly family devotion with my teens. We've been through January and February and I find it boring and repetitive. I can't see how a teen's attention would be kept by this, it certainly isn't keeping mine. I mean the entries are nice and have a message to teach, but they seem to reach to fit bible verses into the lesson which is being taught. Just my opinion, others may find it more useful than I have. I am considering switching to something else, just not sure what.

This book was a gift for a 13 year old girl who was getting baptised/confirmed. I looked through the book and found the passages to be age appropriate and well written for a teen. The gift receiver loved that it was specifically for teens. This book was a replacement for one I had purchased earlier called a teen version but was really an adult version.

I do bible study with my kids each day and i have a teen so i figured it was time to move on up to teen subjects which include more reading and its great, my daughter loves it and we look forward to starting our day with devotions.

Best teen/ family Devo! We have 15 and 13 yr olds. It was perfect for them. My husband and I throughly enjoyed it too. We used it twice.

I can repeat the same things for all of the devotions that I have purchased…these are for young men that help with a farm program at our church..I want to encourage them also to read their Bibles daily.

We purchase this book every year for teenagers at our church who are graduating from highschool. Several of them have written to tell us how much they appreciated having it with them at college as it offers good, useful advice and also reminds them of their church family at home.

so, I make my son read this before he can eat breakfast. He seems to understand it because the book uses simple words. Thanks for the speedy delivery.

In this generation, I have found it a bit difficult to encourage teens to love the Lord. This book reaches different personalities. The Word is truly a light for our paths. This book makes it clear.

A must read! If I could give it six stars, I would. The book exposes little know facts about Greek philosophers, and describes how, centuries earlier, than Galileo, they not only knew that the Earth was round, but, without leaving Alexandria, Erastotheses was able to calculate the circumference of the Earth to within 198 miles, and deduced that the Earth was tilted. The book is full of such historical anecdotes. I was not able to put it down!

One of the best history books I've ever read. Going at a quick pace, it reads like an action novel, but this is history, not fiction. It ostensibly covers Alexandria, but it really shows the city as a point of history, and shows the breadth of antiquity through it all.An incomplete list of what Justin Pollard and Howard Reid cover in this incredible tome -* Aristotle, with a little of his precursors Socrates and Plato* Alexander* Ptolemies I-XII, that's twelve. A few more than this actually.* Cleopatra, who was a Ptolemy* Julius Caesar, Marc Antony and company* The Council of Nicea* Virtually every scientific discovery when it was discovered the first time, ie distance to sun, Heliocentrism and more* Battles between monotheism and paganism* And of course the Library of AlexandriaAnd so much more. The only negative thing I can say about this is that I it was so loaded with incredible little tidbits that I tried to speed up in certain areas and just couldn't because I did not want to miss out on anything. So it took me awhile to read. That's another compliment, actually. Great book!

This is not a "scholarly" or in-depth treatment of that great ancient city, but that's not what the authors intended. It's an easy-to-read, accessible history and I enjoyed it. My only complaint is an absence of maps. There is a single diagram of the city in the back of the book but that's all. A half dozen well chosen maps illustrating Alexander's empire, the ancient cities and trade routes of the Mediterranean, etc. would have enhanced it. Regardless, it is a fine book and I recommend it.

Excellent book that demonstrates how society flourishes when governments place a special emphasis on the expansion of knowledge through science, art, literature, among others. The authors do a great job of illuminating the lives of the ancient scholars who discovered how the world was round; how an object’s volume is calculated; how a city was planned to the benefit of all and many more accounts of humanities greatest achievements, many of which we still use today. Alexander the Great’s vision - faciltated thanks to Ptolemy’s shared vision - spurred so many wonderful achievements in the city of Alexandria.

This is not a scholarly work nor is it intended to be. The authors are television producers, not historians, and there are no footnotes. Still they provide a good overview of Alexandria. As an academic at heart I have always been fascinated by the idea of a city set up to pursue learning for the sake of learning. The rulers wanted to put Alexandria on the map and to attract the best and the brightest to the city, and it never occurred to anyone that practical use might be made of the cumulative knowledge. To many, like Archimedes, the very thought of practical applications was repugnant. There are a number of small deficiencies in the book whose cumulative impact is mildly annoying, enough to subtract a star. There is way too much use of superlatives. This is totally unnecessary. The reader does not need to be banged over the head with the signficance of the events. The book occasionally goes off on tangents and when it does the authors put themseleves on shaky ground. They go on at length about the philosophy of Plato and mention the influence of Heraclitus without mentioning the equal and opposing influence of Parmenides. The authors make it seem as if the mathematics behind Eratosthenes' measure of the Earth's circumference is very complex. It does not diminish his accomplishment at all that the geometry involved is rather straightforward, as could have been shown by a simple diagram. Some diagrams of Hero's devices would also have been helpful.I am guessing that the authors are not particularly strong in science and math. They mention that the information in the epitaph of Diophantus can be turned into a pair of simultaneous equations by those with "mathematical talents." Actually, the infomation is easily turned into a single simple equation by anyone with a basic knowledge of algebra. The mathematician Apollonius of Perga is mentioned only in passing without reference to his important work on conic sections. Most significantly there is little description of daily life in Alexandria or of the influence of the library on the rest of the city. There is also little description of what life was like inside the library.Still I recommend the book for a quick view of Alexandrian history. My appetite has been whetted and I plan to use the biblography to learn more about the city.

The practice tests that accompany the book are full of grammatical errors, and a few practice questions even have wrong keys. In addition, in some instances there is conflicting information in the text including an explanation of biometrics Type 1 and Type 2 errors. The information presented in the text was not representative of the actual exam. The end of chapter tests only have recall-type questions. To be more effective as a study guide, it should have more scenario type questions and of a higher cognitive level. Also, for a majority of the practice questions, there were no explanation to the distractors/incorrect answers. It would only be explained with "Options x, y, z are distractors". The publisher of the practice exams should be embarrassed at the number of typos. I would not recommend this book. I ended up purchasing the "All-In-One SSCP Exam Guide" published by Gibson. In addition, I've purchased books from Sybex including the CEHv9 and CISSP books. Again, the practice tests have typos and worthless practice questions. The CEHv9 book is literally falling apart and pages starting falling out from the binding. It is cheaply made.I'm not at all impressed with any of these books published by Sybex/Wiley.

I was at my (ISC)2 chapter meeting on March 27th when a member mentioned about SSCP exam. On the same day, I checked out "How to get your SSCP Certification" at (ISC)2 website and bought the Kindle version of this book. I also registered with Pearson Vue on the date and time to take the exam. The book is very well written, in particular I like the boxes with "Note", "Real World Scenario", "Exam Point" and the summary at the end of each chapter. I also took assessment, chapter and practice tests (this is provided free by the publisher of this book Sybex/Wiley when you purchased the book). I listened to the video summary of each chapter and used the "Flashcards" a few times. On April 6th (less than 2 weeks later), I took and passed the SSCP exam first time. Note: I have background in this field and had taken Cyber Security exams before so I have an advantage.

This book feels extremely basic with a concerning lack of depth in topics covered. I also spent a lot of time fact checking concepts I knew due to poorly explained and wrong content. Key concepts are often explained wrong or confused by typos. For instance, qualitative vs quantitative. The discussion in the text is full of typos and the review question key and explanation are obviously wrong. Another example is the explanation of Recovery Point Objective as essentially the same thing as Recovery Time Objective, rather than being data specific. The business data classification scheme is also wrong in the book with the review question using something different altogether. Neither reflects the industry standard of Public, Sensitive, Private, Confidential found in other ISC2, CompTIA, and Cisco texts. Instead, it is listed as Public, Internal use, Confidential. Business Continuity is covered twice for no reason. There was no expansion or added depth. Redundant explanations abound throughout the text. This book is a trainwreck.

Great content and has more information in some areas than the "All-in-one". Though it is my secondary source ("All-in-one SSCP" being my primary, this book helped me pass the test with confidence. My only negative comment (therefore the one star less) is some spelling errors, other than that it is definitely a great reference book.I hope that ISC study guides will get better on proofreading since the books are really valuable desk references.

I did use this book to pass on the first try. I read the entire book and completed the questions at the end of each chapter. I also used the practice exam that comes with the book. I found the book to be very helpful. I used this book and another book (maroon/gold) to pass the SSCP exam.

Enjoyed reading this book. very structured, non-ambiguous. Passed exam with little effort. Took me about a month of reading through it. But I have many years of experience in networking. I feel that the beginner will have to look for some more resources to study (my only reason for not giving it 5 stars). And of course you need to have basic knowledge of networking, protocols, etc. as well as some working experience with cryptography will be a plus.already started reading the CISSP book.

poorly written an expensive book with nothing worth while...better to just google your questions...unless you are in a class and the teacher requires it....

I had used this book in order to study for the SSCP Exam, and it actually helped. Though some parts I felt could use a little work, and the first Chapter shouldn't have really been a "Chapter," I still was overall satisfied.
