I only wish I had read The Rebel Negotiator’s guide many years ago. Grant Lange combines a sense of humor with deft negotiation acumen and many years of experience to guide you step by step through the car buying process. Though the principles presented are utilized in the business world, Mr. Lange explains them in a way that makes them easily accessible and understood. The best thing about the Rebel Negotiator’s lessons is that they can be used in any negotiation—car buying and beyond! I have already put some of the principles to use in my day to day life and plan on following his advice to the letter for my next car purchase. This book is a must read if you are considering a car purchase or if you are simply looking for the hands down best guide to practical negotiation strategies!
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is a guide for the lay person to attempt to navigate thru the gaining the best deal when purchasing a car.The principles explained in this book can be used no only for car buying but at any time a negotiation occurs. The steps were explained in a concise detailed manner with a touch of humor. I also enjoyed the graphs which outlined each phase of the negotiation process.
Excellent guidebook for improving your success in buying a car..or any other negotiation. This book arms you with the knowledge you need to take a lot of the stress out of the car-buying process. I will definitely use Grant's advice during my next car purchase.I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
This read is great for all car buyers, both timid and savvy. The author defines multiple, real life scenarios that are not really effective for which I realized I experienced many of those myself. He helps you define a strategy and follow a proccess to get to more successful outcome using his 4x7 approach. The author is also clearly fond of this approach called BATNA which basically helps you define and understand your alternatives in order to make your best decision - I found this very worthy and useful with how he embedded it into the process. Overall, it was an easy read and a very enjoyable read.
Short book (which would be shorter still without the unnecessary amateur graphics) will still give you some help on negotiating your next car purchase. The author stresses (repetitively) a few major points about negotiations in general. For example, don't compete against yourself by doing such things as stating a price, then changing it without the person you're negotiating with haven taken any action. Be prepared - know what you are willing to pay for the car you want, know what you are willing to accept for your trade-in, and be willing to walk away if you don't get it. The author points out, quite rightly, that as the buyer, you are in the position of power. You have lots of options (especially if you live in a large metro area with lots of dealers.)The book would have benefited from a few more specific details about car buying. While the author tells us about holdbacks and dealer incentives, he doesn't provide advice for dealing with the big delivery charge that dealers always add on AFTER you have come to a deal. I'd like to know how to deal with that one!Still, a useful and quick read that could be improved with a little editing and a few more concrete details.
I really resonated w/the acronym LIAR - Listen, Inquire, Acknowldge, and Respond. I found the way Grant broke down the steps and provided the back up graphs to be helpful as well.
Very easy to read and apply. I will have to try this with the next car I buy. I volunteered to review an advance copy from hidden gems.
Always entertaining in his delivery, his latest work delivers practical advice for probably the most stressful transaction any of us go thru. Simple and straight forward yet in a format that is useful. On some level we know we should do as he suggests, now we have been given permission. What's next Grant? Rebel negotiators Guide to asking for a raise???
