This is an interesting book. A eclectic mix of science fiction, fantasy, romance and mystery. Very well done. It takes a minute to get into the story and I would strongly recommend reading Harule's Stokes' second novel, Fallen Sun, before you read Sectors. Things will make much more sense if you do, as it is definitely a prequel to this book even though it was written after Sectors was published. Great characters, vivid descriptive scenery, not an unending amount of action but plenty to keep everything interesting, strongly defined characters. Couple of complaints, characters do get forgotten about, whatever became of Jennifer and Ethel; why was Joseph's best friend killed and who killed him, etc. So a few unnecessary loose ends in a 500 page novel, that better editing maybe could had prevented. Strongly recommend this book, it was good; just make sure you read Fallen Sun first. Stokes is an excellent writer and storyteller, looking forward to more books from him.

Here's the thing. I am 90 pages into this book now, and I still know very little about the characters, their motivations, the back story or anything else that is going on in the book. I have no idea what is meant by the frequently used terms Keynosian, Southie, Fallen, Nextgen or Sectors. I feel like my Kindle skipped the beginning of the story and dumped me right into the third or fourth chapter. There's no snappy dialog, no (or slow) plot progress and not enough character development to make me care about anyone in the story. I have read nothing so far that makes me want to continue plodding along with this one, so I'm outta here. I'm giving this book two stars, only because I think it might be a bit harsh to assign one star to a book that I didn't even finish.

There is much associated with the term Science-fiction. Recently when mentioning that genre of fiction, the expectation is of concepts related to what would become big explosive special effects in film... impossible action sequences... unbelievable exotic gadgets... more often then not set in a dystopian future. This book was different. It was all story. The settings, the gadgetry all melted away into an escape into the coming of age story of Joseph, an extraordinary young man, with an all too human psychology. It took me back years to my early adulthood, and then carried me into a strange, yet familiar place.I can not tell you why, I related to it that much but I did... and what Joseph went through, I felt.By the end of it I felt like I, more than he, had grown. What an accomplishment for a writer. It was more than I expected, more than I have gotten used to.Thank you, Mr. Stokes... I am now a fan.

Should be a New York Times #1, Washington post, la times, oprah book club best seller. This series, this world that stokes has created is phenomenal. This is a classic. Will be as good 100 years from now, as it is today. If, when I hit lottery, I will be purchasing the rights to these books. Wow, I am re-reading both sectors and fallen sun. I eagerly await the next book in this rich and complex world.

This was the Story I wanted The Characters, the Cultural differences between the Alliance & The Keynosian's as well as filling in some Blanks from Fallen Sun. These books together make an Incredible story. Glad I read them. Can't wait to read more from this Author & hopefully more from this world.

Looking forward to the next book (hopefully there is another). Loved the book, the character interplay and the attention to detail regarding the Keynosian culture. The distinction in geography between Northern Alliance and Keynosa was well depicted. Each character was distinct and well developed and the growth of Joseph was believable and hard not to relate. I really came to know the characters and like them a great deal. I was a little sad when the story ended. Even though the story began slow, it still held my interests, from incidents like the party when Joseph was dancing with Jennifer, discovering how awful she danced, and his moments with friend Zek were funny, too. I have had friends like Zek. David's character was really cool and really dug how he was written and Saptal was all sorts of sexy in my mind. Her intelligence, demeanor, and overall style, plus she can fight!! The Gathering was a nice touch as well... I could go on with the things I like about the story but I will stop it here. Great job and looking forward to more books from Mr. Harule Stokes.

Awesome characters. This book is a nice consistent read. Not fast paced but I couldn't put it down. When it ended I kept wanting there to be more.

Great characters that are well described and believable. I particularly enjoyed the way the main characters thoughts were conveyed as well as the conversations he had with other characters. This book had a bit of everything. Greed, deception, family values, as well as race conflicts and fears. Overall it tells a story of doing the right thing against all odds. Take a journey to the Sectors. I'm glad I did.
