I was pleased to find such a clear, concise book that helps explain the differences between allergies and food intolerance. The author Linda Larsen, who has a BS in Food Science and Nutrition, gives a detailed and informative explanation of how the two differ. For example: While I have never been tested for milk allergy, after reading her explanation I suspect I have a true milk allergy and not lactose intolerance based on my response to dairy products. This has been a lifelong condition which has worsened with time. I am now down to eating soy milk and try to stay away from most dairy products.I also have problems with most nuts, fruits and sometimes eggs. Life can get interesting when it comes to eating.Thanks to Larsen's book: The Everything Food Allergy Cookbook I now have some new recipes to try that will hopefully help some of my food and/or food intolerance issues.Inside this book you will find icons that will help make selecting recipes easier when it comes to choosing the right recipe for the right health condition. Just a regular, basic cookbook with symbols for allergens. The keyword in the subtitle is "or", The uninspired, unimaginative, very basic recipes are free of one "or" more of the allergens. The only thing that makes is a food allergy cookbook is that it has handy pictures to tell you what isn't in it. What a waste of time and money...unless you don't already know how to make scrambled eggs.

I own 2 copies of this book, one in Kindle, the other in paper back. My family has many food allergies, and this book is a God send! It takes out everything that you could possible be allergic to, and substitutes it for allergy free things. Not allergic to cow's milk? Then use regular milk, and not what they suggest. It breaks the recipes down so that you can use easier to find ingredients, that you aren't allergic to, but covers every base. My sister, with Celiacs, uses this book all the time, and I use it alot too with my chicken egg and dairy allergy.

Bought this for my daughter so she could cook for our granddaughter.

I sent this to my favorite seven-year-old whose mother was recently told by her doctor to avoid a whole list of foods. Her mother sent me a picture with her holding the book and a big grin on her face. She loves to read the recipes and make the snacks because she can actually eat them.

I have to say the intro to the book was well written.Everything after that... Well, the title of the book says allergy free cooking, can you explain to me then why the majority of the recipies include the top 8 allergens?When people are diagnosed with an allergy, the first thing they will do is buy books to help. Let me tell you save your money. Google whatever recipies you need because this book is not worth it. After reading the intro I paged thru the breakfast section, more than half have egg in them. The same goes with the other allergens. So if you have more than one allergy good luck recreating some of these recipies.Just before the recipies the author states that you can just substitute ingredients that you may be allergic to with non allergic ingredients. I can tell you from over 10 years experence this rarely works. Unless there is a tested recipie that they provide you will not only be wasting money on this book, you will be wasting time and money on preperation on a recipie that most likley wont turn out You have enough on your plate, pun intented, dealing with food allergies, don't waste your energy. Stick with food blogs written by people who actually make the recipies. I promise they will taste better, you will save money and reduce your stress.Ps.Good luck with your food allergy!!

This would be a better book for adult allergies and for an adult who is a good cook. There are way too many ingredients in each recipe and the types of ingredients that it asks for are impossible to find. It just sits on my shelf now. Occasionally I pull it down and open it up to to remember that the recipe calls for 4 different types of flour @_@

I purchased this book along with another food allergy book for a friend who has food allergies. she likes the book and said it was very helpful.
