Initially I bought 2 of these books... one for distant grandchildren ( ages 5 & 7) and one for myself. The gambit was for them to choose their favorite pies--- a fun experience, since the photos are full pie sized and beautiful..... and then help me make them when I visited. It was a tremendous success... first we shopped for ingredients and then made the pies... One the cover pie, which offered much work for their little fingers in arranging the fruit on top. They came out beautifully and we have a photo record of their success.. I have since sent this book to several friends. It is a treasure!

I love the way that this book is bound. Gorgeous, full size photos of pies and tarts. Yummy stuff to make!

What makes this book such a joy is its format. The book itself is 10" round (yes, a ROUND book). Each page has a full-size photo of the top of the pie/tart on the right hand side, with the recipe on the left side. Visually this is a very fun book and a joy to leaf through.We actually bought this book for our children (4 and 2 years old). They love to flip through the pages with us and talk about the pies and which ones they like the best. We have not actually taken the next step (following the recipes and making the pies), but we do buy pies from the bakery of our local supermarket based on the pies we've seen here.Is it a practical recipe book for someone who wants to make pies? I will have to leave that question for another reviewer to answer. But the book is certainly a joy to hold and read.

Fantastic cook book for anyone who is not comfortable baking. It makes baking pies and tarts so easy. The best is when you can compare your tart to the tart pictured in the book. The fact that the pictures are actual sizes of the tarts and pies is fantastic. I highly recommend this cook book!

The shape and vibrant phtotography make it a fun and mouth-watering gift. Good value for the $. I think I will buy more!

7 years ago I had a PSA of 18. A biopsy showed a Gleason score of 7. I was told by 3 different doctors that there were other options but that the 'gold standard' was surgery, preferably 'robotic surgery'. Just before committing to the knife a friend told me about his son-in-law's successful treatment at Loma Linda University in southern California. I called him in Hawaii and after a glowing endorsement he , in turn gave me another man's phone number to call. He also gave a similar success story and told me before I committed to anything to read Bob Marckini's book 'You Can Beat Prostate Cancer AND YOU DON'T NEED SURGERY TO DO IT.' It's interesting to note my urologist told me that Proton Therapy was simply too experimental to risk. (Similar advise from their doctors was told to a number of the friends I was soon to meet taking proton treatments at Loma Linda.)I made the decision and it was one of the best of my life. It truly was like a weight was lifted from my heart and shoulders. I had a wonderful time in California! For nine weeks I spent a brief time weekday mornings taking painless radiation treatments and the rest of the day hiking in the surrounding mountains and nearby deserts or hitting golf balls at the driving range. I also spent time each day at the college health center, swimming or lifting wights. Sounds like I had a great time? You bet.Side effects from the radiation? ABSOLUTELY NONE!! No incontinency, no impotency, no more cancer!At the time I went there, Loma Linda was the only proton therapy location on the west coast. Today there a more of them popping up all the time. I would encourage anyone experiencing that frightening time when you have just been told that you have prostate cancer, to look into the real 'gold standard', Proton Therapy.Bruce HelmSeattle, Wa

Got the C diagnosis in Redding California last March, Urologist gave me a book on prostate cancer treatments, said to come back in two weeks and we'd decide what course to treat. He did robotic prostate surgery, nerve sparing. When we met again, he told me he was retiring, but could refer me to a doc who was just as good 150 miles away. My barber, DC had given me Bob's book. He explained all the approaches very clearly (probably over states prostate surgery as it's done now.) Went down to do a consultation with the docs at Loma Linda University. The doc does regular radiation treatment there and does proton treatment. He took as much time as I needed to ask my long list of questions and said I was eligible for the new 20 treatment approach. I asked him what the gold standard was, he said still the 45 day treatment. I walked out of that consultation, got in the car and said, this is the place I want to be treated. They helped me see its more than just killing the cancer. It's about mental state, exercise, eating better foods, cutting out stress, and learning to laugh more. My wife and I had what's called a"radiation vacation" and my PSA dropped from a high of 8.9 (3+3= 6) to 1.8 after treatment and is still heading down towards its "nadir" or low point. I came home feeling healthy and living life to the fullest. I find I miss the support we had there. Great book to read and then make your own choice for how you're going to battle your cancer.

Bob Marckini's book probably saved my life. After my diagnosis, I had learned about proton therapy from a friend, and did my due diligence by learning about the treatment through Bob's book and the Internet. My local urologist, however, had different plans for me, all of which only fell within the scope of his practice. His partner had just got a new DiVinci robotic (read "Ginsu") machine and was looking for uninformed customers on whom to practice. A good way to die. That was his first recommendation, followed by IMRT. He literally picked up the phone to call another colleague to schedule an appointment to burn out the cancer and whatever nerves and organs that might be in the way. I told him to please put the phone down, that I was not interested in either.When I asked about proton therapy, he was dismissive -- told me it was only six sessions long, and had a very poor outcome compared to IMRT, and he immediately said, "I'll call Dr. X and set up an appointment for you for next week." I asked him to put the phone down. I then told him about the length of treatment, the Bragg Peak, the positive outcomes percentage comparables, and the lack of side effects (all learned from this book). Not only was he only mildly interested, he seemed annoyed that I had read Bob's book and had done my own research. In fact, I showed him an Excel spreadsheet I had prepared (I'm a former university technology dean, have a Ph.D. in telemedicine, and like Bob, am a recovering geek) with the "normal" treatment options, the pros, the cons, and my views, all in columnar format. He was not impressed that I would even consider going outside of his practice. Basically, I represented a revenue stream to him, not an aging and fairly apprehensive patient to whom he owed the very best in care.So I divorced him.I had all of my records sent to a nationally-known cancer center, and scheduled my own colonoscopy (an entry requirement). From the cancer center, I have received caring, professional, patient-centered service from literally every person I've met or talked with. I begin proton treatment next week, on my 69th birthday. I hope I get a colored balloon....Bob Marckini's book provides a wonderful, supportive service to all of us. It is a truthful book that eases fears and makes me realize that soon I am going to be part of a whole community of smiling survivors through proton therapy. I'm going to live a long time because of the knowledge he selflessly gave me. Buy this book -- it could save your life too.

The concept was good.. but the execution was bland. The vanilla nothingness of each attribute of the fruits of the spirit are completely secular. "Joy is a fruit you can pass along, by singing your favorite silly song". That is NOT what the Scripture teaches and not what my child should remember being the meaning of the joy that only God can give us. The fleeting happiness brought by singing a silly song is in contrast to the lasting joy of learning more about God and drawing closer to him. I changed the line to now read "by singing your favorite Bible song". Another example is "Faithfulness is being a friend to the end, playing together till you're 110". Yes, that is true according to the Webster's Dictionary definition. But the scriptural principle is so much deeper and still so easy for a child to understand. I changed my book to read "Faithfulness is when you God's word obey, praying often each and every day." The other pages are just as bland. I was disappointed.

The books colors are a tad odd. The image online is what i expected, but when it arrived the background in the cover is not a light yellow its a light orange and the kids skin looks orange. Inside the book, the skin colors look better, but the other colors are overly bright and to me a bit jarring... especially when the background is all bright purple or bright pink. I would even say some of the colors are heading towards neon. I really do not like bright colors especially neon so this was a big disappointment to me. Plus the picture colors were in conflict with the fruit's color pallet (duller and not bright) so the fruit do not get noticed as much... when they should have been the focus of the pages especially when only a few fruits are left on the page.Content wise the book was pretty good at teaching the fruits of the spirit. Many of the concepts were put in examples or terms a child can understand. However I disagreed with how they taught peace. Peace is not about reconciling conflict between people... because conflict will always be around us. True peace is about reconciling your own fears/stresses etc. and giving them to God. I wish this page had been about sleeping in peace no longer afraid of the dark or monsters under the bed because knew God more powerful then both.Production wise, the book is lumpy and has dents on pages because of how the pop up plastic fruit was constructed and inserted into the pages. I own another book of this type and this damage is far less. The book needed to have been constructed better or at least use a thinner plastic base so didn't bend the pages as much. In fact, this book didn't really need pop out plastic fruit... it makes no sense to take fruit away each page when you are gaining the fruits in your life. Also why have fruit if not even counting them? Would have been better if fruit was additive not subtractive so had all the fruits of the spirit at the end. A summary page with all the fruit names would be better than the forced last page of Jesus that really did not flow with the rest of the book.Overall, I like how the book teaches the fruits of the spirit. I think the pop of fruit was unnecessary, would have made different coloring choices, and disagreed with their presentation of peace.

I seriously have bought 10+ copies of this book! My kids enjoyed it around age 1 to even age 3 now. I've given this book for baby shower gifts and for 1st and 2nd birthdays. It's my favorite!It has a page for each fruit and proved to be super engaging. We have been making the conscious decision to only buy Christian books for our kids (we get enough "regular" books from people over time) and it has resulted in my 3 year old having a strong comprehension of Jesus and many biblical concepts and stories.

I like this book a lot. My 3 year old remembered 5 of the 9 Fruits Of the Spirit the next day and totally impressed my mom and me. It is a basic explanation of Love, Joy, Peace Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control as a parent you can elaborate more as the child begins to grasp those basic ideas. The book is colorful and cute, but not too distracting. After a week my 3 year old can look at the book and tell me all 9 fruits and explain what they mean based on the pictures. She is very smart but this book should be good for older children who have never been introduced to the Fruits or are learning to read. My 3 year old and I love this book.

I love this book so much I bought the entire series! This book is great for a variety of ages. My son just turned a year old and loves to point at all the fruit and play with the holes in the book (the cutouts for the fruit) and the wording is short and sweet so it keeps his attention and all the while he's learning a great Bible verse! I love how this book explains what each of the fruits of the spirit are and gives real examples for them to be (ie) kind. If you like this book you'll like her other books that are done in the same style!

Really cute book with great message. The illustrations are not the best, but the fruit that stick up are fun for my toddler.

Our son loves this book. The pictures are beautiful. The little fruits on the top of each page hold up well considering we have a two year old that pokes at them:)

I'm normally a big fan of DK's travel guides and have purchased many over the years for trips far and wide. I just purchased the 2016 edition of the Caribbean Guide and the overall writing, photos and maps were up to the standards DK typically produces. Unfortunately, the standards for diversity and inclusion failed; I was very disappointed to realize that there is NO mention of Haiti, except on a map and in a sentence or two mentioning that it shares the island of Hispaniola with Dominican Republic, which receives it's own full chapter. I realize that Haiti will not be at the top of most destination lists, but there's not even a description of the country nor the numerous areas that are welcoming visitors. Even if DK refuses to provide a full chapter on Haiti, it should definitely be included in the chapter covering Hispaniola. So instead of 5 stars, I'm only giving 3... and expressing my strong disappointment with the editorial ignorance or short-sightedness.

Love the DK guides. For past trips I have used them to map out my own excursions, highlighting places to go, then using them as a memento of places I've been. I've tried other guides as well but the DK guides are just overall a better choice for keepsakes. This Caribbean guide comes up a little short in my opinion but I will use for it is an upcoming cruise to various islands and there might not be a better guide out there anyway. I've found myself writing in a lot of things just not found in the DK guide that I've noted from other sources. It's got a lot of useful info, don't get me wrong but somehow I expected more compared to other DK's I own. For someone on a cruise you might expect better maps of the port cities, areas around the ports, suggested walking tours and a map large enough to highlight a walking tour, must see places, etc. Maybe DK should do a guide just for Caribbean cruisers or a more focused guide of select island groups? Just a few examples: I see a lot of people recommend purchasing "Guavaberry" liqueur on St. Martin's but the DK guide doesn't mention guavaberry specifically instead noting in "best buys" the "island made liqueurs"...are there others? Then there's Buck Island off St. Thomas.They only reference Buck Island off St. Croix. Why not the other one and the snorkeling tours that go out there from Charlotte Amalie? That Buck Island is not even on their map.

I always buy the DK series books for cities we plan to visit. I really like how the books are arranged. The maps are excellent. The book is small enough to throw in your purse or day pack so you can take it with you and pull it out throughout your time in the city. We have never been disappointed with their recommendations - shopping, museums, restaurants, parks, etc.

This book is the one in taking with me to the Netherlands. I bought 4 books for my trip to the Netherlands. I'm staying in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. This book has things to do and see in Amsterdam and other places in Netherlands. I bought the same Author Book call Netherlands. That one shows less of Amsterdam but shows more places to see in Netherlands. Great color photos and easy read. It has good maps too. It comes with a great fold out map too.

Carefully planned walking tour plans with "3-D" diagrams and street maps. Arrival and orientation information important to first-time visitors are important and comprehensive parts of this guide. After nine visits to The Netherlands, I learn new info and practical facts new to me. (slow learner?).Included are many nearby towns and info about other historic and otherwise places of significance and interest to visit.This is a beautiful and tourist-friendly country to visit, with enough attractions to keep anyone busy traveling or touring busy for as long as you can stay.This guide is highly recommended for all Independent visitors considering a Western European trip.More hotel and restaurant listings would be welcome, though.Added comment to original post: Lavishly illustrated with color photos related to the printed descriptions of the attractions.

Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Travel are my favorite series of travel guides. DK produces the most detailed and beautiful photographic guides. I have one for every country or city I’ve visited since first discovering them 18 years ago while living in the UK. I still buy the books for trip planning (and the gorgeous visuals), but now I also purchase and download the Kindle version of their 'Lists of 10 Top' guides for the specific location to lighten my luggage load.

I am a very big fan of the DK Eyewitness series. I have used them all over the world and think they are superb.The Caribbean version was a disappointment. Perhaps it is that it is trying to cover such a large and diverse area, but I found so many sights totally missing.

As always, the DK Eyewitness program delivers. This is my seventh guide in the series and I have found it to be extraordinarily accurate and helpful. Coverage for the nations is dictated by their size. A reminder, Bermuda and the Bahamas are located in the Atlantic Ocean, NOT the Caribbean Sea, and therefor are not included in this volume.
